Sylvia Campo passed away peacefully on Friday, October 17, 2025 at Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility in Amsterdam, NY. Sylvia was born on May 9, 1936 in Amsterdam, NY to Harley and Alta Du Rose and was one of eleven children.
A lifelong resident of Amsterdam, Sylvia was united in Marriage to Ralph Campo on October 11, 1958. Together they had four children, Jeanne Campo of Guilderland, Mari-Ann (George) Brower of Cohoes, Ralph (Phyllis) Campo, Jr. of Clover, SC and Jackie (Mike) Marciniak of Amsterdam.
Sylvia was known for her quick wit and spirited nature. She was a strong, outspoken woman who never hesitated to share her thoughts. While she could sometimes come across as gruff, those who truly knew her felt the warmth of her tender heart and the kindness of her soul. Sylvia was employed for several years at Verizon in Amsterdam as a Directory Assistance Operator. She left Verizon in 1991 and started a second career as an unemployment insurance specialist with New York State Department of Labor for more than 10 years.
In addition to her four children, Sylvia is survived by her grandchildren, Justin (Sarah) Brower, Casey (Amber) Brower, Nicholas (Elizabeth) Campo, Joseph (Elizabeth) Campo, Dominic Campo, Jessica (Tim) Goyette, Robert Close, Michael Marciniak, Jr., A.J. Marciniak, her great grandchildren, Arianna & Kiera Brower (Justin), Chance, Gracie, & Viviana Brower, Nicholas, Jr., Isabella & Maria Campo, Sammy, Avery & Sullivan Campo, Kellen, Kyler & Bryce Goyette, Dylan Close and Colton Marciniak. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Sylvia was predeceased by her husband Ralph (2006) as well as her 10 siblings.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, October 23, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, Amsterdam.
Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. at the church prior to the funeral Mass.
Interment will be at St. Mary's Cemetery, Fort Johnson, NY.
