Robert J. “Count” Vainosky, 80, of Fort Johnson, NY, passed away Thursday May 28, 2015 with his family at his side.

Born in Amsterdam, NY, on July 31, 1934, he was the son of the late Anthony and Euphrozine Taberski Vainosky. He was also predeceased by his oldest brother, Thomas of Jacksonville, FL.

A graduate of St. Mary’s Institute in Amsterdam, NY, Robert was employed in masonry construction and construction oversight for most of his working career. Growing up, and in his early adult years, Robert along with his father, Anthony and his brothers trained and raced thoroughbred horses. He was a licensed pilot and with sometime reluctant co-pilot, his wife Ellen enjoyed countless aerial excursions and adventures up and down the east coast. He also enjoyed fishing with close friends and family on The Great Sacandaga and Lake Ontario.

Robert is survived by his wife of 57 years, Ellen Flanagan Vainosky, daughters, Ellen, Elaine and Karin, his son, Michael and his wife, Lynn, grandchildren, Alison and John, brother, Edward and his companion, Janet and sister, Carol Putteet. Nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

The family would like to extend its sincerest gratitude and thanks to the emergency room staff at St. Mary’s Healthcare in Amsterdam, NY for their caring compassion.

In accordance with Robert’s wishes, there will be no calling hours. A gathering to remember and celebrate his life is planned for August 1, 2015 at his home in Fort Johnson, NY. All will be welcomed.
