Robert F. Nowak, 84, of Mohawk Drive, Tribes Hill, NY; passed away Saturday morning, January 12, 2019 at home.
Born in Amsterdam, NY; on December 14, 1934, he was the son of the late William A. and Edith Dylong Nowak.
Bob received his education in the Amsterdam school system and was a graduate of Wilbur H. Lynch High School.
Bob was first employed as the Assistant Vice President of First American Bank in Amsterdam and after retirement went to work as a lease manager at Cranesville Properties LLC at the River Front Center in Amsterdam.
For many years, Bob was a member of the 109th Air Lift Wing at the Stratton Air National Guard Base in Scotia, NY, holding the rank of Staff Sergeant.
Bob was a parishioner and communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Amsterdam and Sacred Heart Church in Tribes Hill, NY.
He was also a former president of the Kiwanis Club and served on the board of the United Way.
Bob was predeceased by his wife Doris on May 9, 2014. He is survived by ten children, Deborah Fowler (Paul) of Dadeville, AL; Kathleen DiMezza (Thomas) of Tribes Hill, NY; Maureen Manning and her companion, Rick Cerbone of South Glens Falls, NY; Robert F. Nowak Jr. (Suzanne) of Glen Allen, VA; William Nowak of Ballston Spa, NY; Nancy Curley (Bryan) of Johnstown, NY; Joseph Nowak (Karen) of Tribes Hill, NY; Mary Lynch (Michael) of Limerick, PA; Christine Tatko (Thomas) of Rexford, NY; and Susan Arminio (Scott) of Johnstown, NY; Twenty six grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and one sister, Elizabeth “Betty” Varsoke. Nieces and nephews also survive.
Bob was also predeceased by a brother, William A, Nowak Jr.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Tuesday January 15, 2019 at St. Mary’s Church, 156 East Main Street, Amsterdam, NY 12010, with Rev. Jeffrey L’Arche, M.S. and Fr. O. Robert DiMartinis officiating.
Memorial gifts in Bob’s name may be made to St. Mary’s Church or to Sacred Heart Church 111 Third Avenue, Tribes Hill, NY 12177.
Interment will take place in the spring at Pine Grove Cemetery, Tribes Hill, NY.
