Robert (Bob) Andrew Crawford passed away Tuesday June 10, 2025.

Bob was born in Amsterdam on February 24, 1930 to Andrew and Winifred Freer Crawford and graduated from the former Wilbur H. Lynch Senior High School in 1948.

He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1948 and served both active and reserve duty attaining the rank of sergeant at the time of his honorable discharge in 1955. Bob participated in action against enemy forces in South and Central Korea from January, 1951 until February, 1952.

Bob was active in the community for many years as a Wee-Men Minor Baseball coach and subsequently commissioner of the Amsterdam Wee-Men Minor League. He was employed for many years by Mohawk Cleaners and spent many enjoyable hours building birdhouses, feeders and other wood products seen throughout the area.

In 1952, he married the love of his life, Marylyn Burnley, and together had four children, two boys, and two girls. Sadly, Marylyn passed away in 1986.

Bob is survived by his sons, Robert D. (Diane, deceased) of Amsterdam, Christopher J. (Nancy Hoyt) of Johnstown, his daughters; Kathryn Barbato (Joe Duffy) of Amsterdam, and Mary Ann Crawford of Amsterdam, step brothers; Andrew Crawford and Charles Crawford,. Grandchildren, Christie (Tad) Davis, Lance (Bri) Hopkins, Erica (Shane) Bailey and Annette Ortiz, four grandchildren, five great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Bob was a member of John J. Wyszomirski American Legion Post 701, Amsterdam, NY.

A prayer service will be held on Tuesday, June 17, 2025 at 12 pm at the Riley Mortuary, 110 Division St., Amsterdam, NY 12010.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Bob’s family at the funeral home from 10 am prior to the service.

Interment will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Fort Johnson, NY.
