Lucia Kern

Lucia S. Kern, 94, passed away peacefully Thursday, January 4, 2024 at River Ridge Living Center in Amsterdam.


She was born in Amsterdam on July 7, 1929 to the late Patrick and Florence Carbonelli Salce


Lucia received her education locally and graduated from high school in 1947.


On October 17, 1948 she was united in marriage to Louis J. Kern Jr. Louis passed away August 10, 2011.


In her early years Lucia taught ballroom dancing which she loved to do. She worked for Lamatronics Fabric, Marel Gift Shop and Millers Clothing. However, most of all she loved being with family and friends. She was an exceptional cook and hosted all family holiday gatherings. She was always there for anyone in need. She will be loved and missed by all who knew her.


Lucia belonged to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church and Mount Carmel Seniors.


In addition to her parents and husband, Lucia is preceded in death by her son-in-law, John S. Mack in 2022


Lucia is the mother of Karen A. Mack of Amsterdam, NY and Michael J. Kern of Smithtown, NY. Surviving grandchildren include Eric Mack, Brian (Elizabeth) Mack, Jennifer Augusta, Christopher Mack, Jaclyn (Robert) Morris Kern and Austin (Samantha) Kern. Surviving great-grandchildren include Makayla Augusta, Hayden Augusta,Grayson Mack, Evelina Mack Carter Morris, Nolan Morris and Declan Kern, Sister, Patricia Culik of Gulf Breeze, FL, nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, cousin Richard (Linda) Baia and many other cousins and longtime friends.


Lucia’s Funeral Mass will be Tuesday, January 9, 2024 at 9:00 AM at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 39 St. Paul St., Amsterdam with the Very Rev. O. Robert DiMartinis, E.V. as Celebrant.


Interment will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery in the spring.


The family requests that donations in Lucia’s name be made to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 39 St. John Street., Amsterdam, NY 12010.
