Jean Colistra, 92, passed away on Thursday, November 21, 2024 with her family by her side.
Jean met her beloved husband, Henry “Hank” Colistra, when she was seventeen at a dance in Johnstown, NY; they were wed 65 years until Hank’s death in 2016. Jean was known for her strong will, unwavering determination, faith, love and support for her family and community. She was a ruthless Scrabble player, an amazing cook, an avid reader, and remained on top of current events in the political and social spheres throughout her life.
Jean enjoyed many years as a teacher’s aide at Carroll Hill School in Troy, NY. After retiring to her beloved Cape Cod, she volunteered her time at the church thrift store and the senior center, where she visited with elderly community members to brighten their day.
She was preceded by her parents, William and Mary Riley Dufresne, husband Hank Colistra, and siblings William Dufresne, Mary Liccardi, Paul Dufresne, Margaret Cosentino, Julie Gumuka, and David Dufresne.
Jean is survived by her son Gerard (Lorraine) Colistra, daughter Jean (Frederick) Quattromani, and daughter Christine (Kevin) Granfield; her sisters Rita McClary & Kathy Andrews; brother-in-laws Tom Cosentino, Jack Gumuka, and Joe Pacino, as well as 7 adoring grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, cousins, and many nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held from 9:30 am to 11:00 am, prior to the funeral service.
A service will be held at St. Mary’s Church, 156 Main Street, Amsterdam, NY on Monday, December 9th, 2024 at 11am. The Rite of Committal will be held at Mt. Carmel Cemetery immediately following Mass.
