James Murray

James Francis Murray, 93, formerly of Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, NY, passed away peacefully Tuesday September 13, 2016 at Rocky Hill Connecticut Veterans Home.

Born on September 25, 1922 in Albany, NY, he was the son of the late James and Florence Costigan Murray.

Jim was a graduate of Albany High School and the University of Miami where he received his Bachelor of Education Degree.

Jim was an honorably discharged United States Army Air Corp veteran of World War II. He held the rank of sergeant with the 8th Army Air Corp in the European Theater.

Jim was golf Pro at the Amsterdam Municipal Golf Course for many years where he had the pleasure of meeting and socializing with many community and golf members. He was a member of the PGA for over 60 years.
He was also a member of the John J. Wyszomirski American Legion Post 701 in Amsterdam, NY.

Jim is survived by his sons, Jim Murray (Sharon) of Middletown, CT., and Jay Murray (Shelly) of Lake Worth, Florida; grandsons, Sam, Ben and Brandon Murray, granddaughters, Brittany Spradling (Stephen) and Abi Murray.

Family and friends of Jim are invited to a memorial reception on Sunday September 25 from 11:00 to noon at the Riley Mortuary, Inc., 110 Division Street, Amsterdam, NY 12010. Immediately following a reception will be held at the Amsterdam Municipal Golf Course.

Memorial gifts in Jim’s name may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1 Penny Lane, Latham, NY 12110.
