James H. Gardner, Jr. 71, of Amsterdam, NY; passed away unexpectedly September 18, 2023.
Born in Waukegan Lake, IL; on December 6, 1951, he was the son of the late James H. and Jane E. Whyland Gardner.
Jimmy retired as a painter from NYS Office of General Services in Albany, NY.
Jimmy was a selfless person, always putting the needs of others before his own and willing to help in anyway he could.
He will be remembered by many friends he met from his days as a delivery driver and employee for Joe’s Market in Amsterdam. He was also an avid fan, attending weekly racing at Fonda Speedway for many years.
Jimmy is survived by his wife, Marlene Place Gardner whom he married October 11, 1975, three daughters, Katie Falso (Matthew) of Clifton Park, NY; Amy Saburro (James) of Guilderland, NY and Ashley Gardner (David Hime) of Mayfield, NY; one son, Brian Snell of Clayton, NC; one sister, Darlene Blakely (Michael) of Palm City FL. and seven grandchildren. Many nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Jimmy was also predeceased by two brothers, Wayne “Rick” and Thomas Gardner ( his baby brother) and two sisters, Sherry Gardner and Linda Bottomley.
Relatives and friends are invited to call Saturday morning, September 23, 2023 at the Riley Mortuary, Inc., 110 Division Street, Amsterdam, NY 12010 from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. where the funeral service with the Rev. Bonnie Orth officiating will follow.
Interment at Fairview Cemetery will be private.
