Honorable William M. Carero of Camarillo, California, beloved husband, father, “Grampy,” and friend, was sent to hiseternal home on April 24th, 2025. William, affectionately known as Bill, was born in Amsterdam, New York on May 14th,1955 to William and Lottie Carero.
Bill was a man defined by his passions and his unwavering faith in God; the life he built exemplifiedthe depths of faith that he held. His love for his family was at the forefront of his every act. Thoseblessed to have known Bill continue to know his kindness, his compassion, his optimism, and the vastness of his great and shining light. The mark Bill left on all who came into his orbit as he moved through this world shall endure.
Bill graduated from Bishop Scully High School in 1973. The very tenets that would weave their wayhthrough Bill’s eventual career in law can be seen within his early academic endeavors: Bill served as chairman of the student council and Consul, or President, of the Omicron Delta Honors Society, alongside participation in a multitude of extracurricular activities, including the Latin Club, Anti-Pollution Club, Key Club, and History Club. As editor of his school newspaper, The Kaleidoscope, Bill’s love of writing was seeded. During his senior year, Bill was awarded the prestigious Regent Scholar-ship for academic excellence.
After high school, Bill traveled to the West Coast to attend Loyola Marymount University, in Los Angeles, California. His enthusiasm for journalism expanded into a role as writer and photo editor for the Los Angeles Loyolan newspaper—he could often be found developing film in the college’sdarkroom. In 1975, Bill co-authored an article that was published in The People’s Almanac. Bill graduated pre-law with a degree in Philosophy in 1977, then went on to earn his Juris Doctor degree at Loyola Law School in 1980, working as news editor for The Loyola Reporter during his years at the school.
Bill began his career at Von Mizener Law as an applicant’s attorney, then moved on to work at Stockwell, Harris, et al., where he practiced as a defense attorney for 17 years. In 2001, Bill was sworn in as a Workers’ Compensation Administrative Law Judge in Ventura County, a position which he held until his retirement in April 2025. Bill proudly served as chair member of the California Lawyer’s Association from 2018 to 2021, where his role was to promote and encourage community among practitioners.
Bill met the love of his life and forever “Hunny Bunny,” Ana Maria, in 1990. They married on July 2nd, 1994 at Church of the Visitation in Los Angeles, California. They have been blessed with an infinite bond, which included 30 beautiful years of marriage. Together, they share four children- Claudia Elizabeth (Dustin) McKim, Christopher Bryan (Rebekah) Cresci, Kathryn Ann Carero, and Christine Marie Carero, and two grandchildren – Max William McKim and Benjamin Lee McKim.
Bill was a founding member of his band, CC&R, and devoted countless hours to writing lyrics,singing, and rehearsing. He was a heartfelt and dynamic performer, deeply fulfilled by the home he found on the stage. Above all, the songs Bill wrote for his wife and children already preserve cherished memories of him, keeping his voice alive. He enjoyed storytelling and could recite any movie from beginning to end. Bill loved traveling and grilling, both of which he pursued with his family by his side.
Bill is survived by his wife Ana, his children, his two grandchildren, his brother – Christopher Carero, his nieces – Jada, Chrissy, and Aimee Carero, and his cousins – Robert Bubniak and Katherine McClellan, and numerous family and friends. Bill is predeceased in death by his parents, William and Lottie Carero, as well as Anton and Ethel Carero, John and Elsa Carero, Elizabeth (Bettie) and Edgar Gerberich, and Joseph and Stasia Bubniak.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Rite of Committal on Saturday, July 5, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph'sCemetery, Mergner Road, Fort Johnson, NY. The officiant will be The Very Rev. O. Robert DeMartinis E.V.
