Emma L. Nelli

Emma L. Nelli, 88, of Amsterdam, NY, passed away peacefully on March 13th, 2026 surrounded by her loving family following a very brief illness. She was born in Amsterdam, NY on August 20, 1937 and was the daughter of the late Frank and Lucy Zumbolo.

She was a lifelong Amsterdam resident of the southside and was a 1955 graduate of the former Wilbur H. Lynch Senior High School in Amsterdam. She worked over 25 years as a clerical typist for the Greater Amsterdam School District before retiring in 2001.

Emma was married to the late Al Nelli on October 18, 1959 before his passing in September 2025.

Emma was a communicant of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Roman Catholic Church in Amsterdam and was a member of the Christian Women's Society. Emma enjoyed playing bocce on Amsterdam's southside and for many years bowled with various women’s leagues. She also enjoyed visiting the Saratoga Casino with family and friends. She was a devoted New York Yankee fan. Emma enjoyed cooking family holiday and Sunday dinners, and spending time with her grandchildren which always brought her so much joy and happiness.

Emma, was predeceased by her sister Priscilla Mongillo and brothers Marco Zumbolo and Thomas Zumbolo.

Once again, they will be joined together!

Emma is survived by her beloved daughters, Jeannine (Frank) Maresca and Tina Ketchell. Cherished grandchildren, Micky Ketchell (Nicole), and Lindsey (Jake) Shave.

She is also survived by her brother in law Pete Nelli, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

There are no calling hours.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, March 18, 2026 at 11:00 am at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 39 St. John Street, Amsterdam, NY.

Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Emma’s name may be made to a charity of one's choice.
