Elaine Furman, 89, formerly Lincoln Avenue and Francis Street, Amsterdam, NY; passed away Friday April 16, 2021 at Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility in Amsterdam.
Born in Amsterdam, on October 3, 1931, she was the daughter of the late George and Beatrice Lingenfelter DiCaprio.
She received her education in the Amsterdam school system and was a graduate of Wilbur H. lynch High School.
Elaine was a former employee of Breier of Amsterdam, Inc.
She was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Amsterdam.
On November 3, 1951, she was united in marriage to Robert M. Furman Sr., Robert passed away November 25, 1989. Elaine was also predeceased by three sons, Thomas and Gary infants, and Robert M. Furman Jr., two brothers, Thomas and George DiCaprio, five sisters, Gloria Metallo, Jean LaBate, Carol Busseno, Shirley Gardner and Barbara Poulin.
Elaine is survived by three daughters, Karen Malpass (Cliff) and Carolyn Carter (Bruce Vickers), all of Hagaman and Kathy Whalen (James Lewis) of Amsterdam, nine grandchildren, Timothy Furman, Robert Furman III, James Furman and John Furman, Ryan Malpass (Natalee), Michael and Betsy Malpass, Tara and Joshua Ryczek and Benjamin and Joseph Carter, six great grandchildren, one sister, Patricia Mannino, many nieces, nephews, cousins and her daughter-in-law, Moira Costello Furman.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning, April 21, 2021 at 10:30 at the Riley Mortuary, Inc., 110 Division Street, Amsterdam, NY 12010, followed at 11:00 by a Mass of Christian Burial, which will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Church, 156 East Main Street, Amsterdam, with Rev. Jeffrey L’Arche, M.S. officiating.
Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Fort Johnson, NY.
Relatives and friends may call at the Riley Mortuary from 9:00 to 10:30 prior to the service.
Elaine’s family wishes to acknowledge the extraordinary care and compassion extended to our mom by Dr. Robert Droege, Dr. Adam Snider, the Hillcrest Spring staff, Hospice nurse Kristina and the Wilkinson 1st floor staff.
