Edward W. “Eddie” Russo, 65, current First Ward Alderman for the City of Amsterdam, passed away Wednesday afternoon, November 8, 2017.
Born in Amsterdam, NY, on October 10, 1952, he was the son of the late John L. Russo and is survived by his mother, Mary Pat Hughes Russo of Amsterdam.
Eddie received his education in the Amsterdam school system and graduated from Wilbur H. Lynch High School.
Eddie retired in January 2017 as Deputy Commissioner of Buildings and Grounds for Montgomery County Department of Public Works in Fonda, NY. He formerly owned and operated his own business, Edward’s Pizza & Catering, he was a civil employee at New York Air National Guard in Scotia, NY; he was a former Local and Unit President of CSEA Local 829, a Board of Directors Representative for CSEA and served on the area Labor Council.
Eddie was a parishioner and communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Amsterdam. He was a member of the B.P.O.E, Elks Lodge 101 and Polish American Veterans, both in Amsterdam.
Eddie is also survived by his loving wife, Kim Wallace - Russo, his daughter, Michele Russo of Amsterdam, his brother, James Russo (Marcia) and his sister Anne Nadler (Alan) all of Hagaman, NY; his mother-in-law, Fil Wallace, (husband John deceased) and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Eddie was always happy when around family, friends and food. He took great pride in serving his community in the various roles that he performed and was able to pass peacefully knowing he won a 3rd term as the Alderman for the First Ward of the City of Amsterdam.
Funeral services will be held Saturday morning at 10:30 at the Riley Mortuary, Inc., 110 Division Street, Amsterdam, NY, followed at 11:15 by a Mass of Christian Burial, which will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Church, 156 East Main Street, Amsterdam.
Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Fort Johnson, NY.
Calling hours are Friday (today) from 4 until 7 at the Riley Mortuary.
