Douglas J. Szyjkowski, 35, of Forest Avenue, Amsterdam, NY, passed away Tuesday morning September 16, 2014 at home.
Born in Amsterdam on October 30, 1978, he was the son of Francis “Frank” and Margaret “Peggy” Szyjkowski.
Doug received his education in the Amsterdam school system and was a graduate of Amsterdam High School. He subsequently attended Schenectady County Community College, where he received his Associates Degree in Culinary Arts.
Doug was last employed as an Assistant Bakery Manager for Golub Corporation at their Price Chopper store in Amsterdam.
He was a member of the P.A.V. Club, John J Wyszomirski Sons of the American Legion Post 701 and a former member of the Bigelow Weavers Club all in Amsterdam. He also enjoyed camping, walking his dog, Junior and was a big fan of Syracuse Orange Basketball.
Besides his parents, Frank and Peggy, Doug is survived by his brother, Joseph “Joe” Szyjkowski (Chad) of Amsterdam, his sister Audra Szyjkowski (Aaron) of Gloversville, NY, and his maternal grandmother, Marion “Betty” Cuckoo of Broadalbin, NY. Aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Doug was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Frank and Julia Szyjkowski and his maternal grandfather, Arden Cuckoo.
Funeral services will be held Friday morning at 11:00 at the Riley Mortuary, Inc., 110 Division Street, Amsterdam, NY.
Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Fort Johnson, NY.
Relatives and friends are invited to call Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m., at the Riley Mortuary.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts in Doug’s name may be made to Montgomery County SPCA, P.O. Box 484, Amsterdam, NY 12010.
