Dorothy H. Quick, 94, passed away peacefully at home on July 7, 2026, surrounded by her loving family her loving family.

Born in Amsterdam, New York, on November 23, 1931, Dorothy was the daughter of the late Howard J. Hughes and Lillian L. Hughes. She graduated from Wilbur H. Lynch High School before attending Parsons School of Design in New York City.

After raising her three children, Dorothy pursued her dream of becoming an artist. She became an accomplished painter, best known for her beautiful landscape artwork.

Dorothy was a devoted member of Christ Episcopal Church in Ballston Spa. Her faith was the foundation of her life, and she loved the Lord Jesus Christ deeply. She found great joy in the simple pleasures of home, especially watching and feeding the birds. She also shared a special bond with her cats.

Dorothy will be remembered for her unwavering faith, artistic talent, and the love she shared with her family and friends, which will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

Dorothy was predeceased by her beloved husband of 68 years, Stuart W. Quick; her parents, Howard J. Hughes and Lillian L. Hughes; and her brother, Donald J. Hughes.

She is survived by her loving children, Valerie J. Fitch, Douglas R. Quick, and Marilyn J.Wick; her sister, Marilyn McKnight; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Community Hospice of Saratoga Springsfor the compassionate care and support they provided, allowing Dorothy to remain in the comfort of her home surrounded by those she loved.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 13, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Riley Mortuary, 110 Division Street, Amsterdam, New York 12010. 

Family and friends are invited to call one hour prior to the service.

 Burial will immediately follow at Hagaman Cemetery, where Dorothy and her husband, Stuart, will be laid to rest together. A private family luncheon will be held following the burial.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Dorothy’s name to ChristEpiscopal Church, 15 W. High Street, Ballston Spa, NY 12020, or to a charity of one’s choice.
