Dolores M. Piorkowski

Dolores M. Piorkowski, 87, most recently of the Sanford Home, Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, NY; passed away Monday morning, February, 19, 2018 at St. Mary’s Healthcare in Amsterdam.

Born in Amsterdam, NY; on September 9, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Jedrzejewski Opalka.

Dolores received her education in the Amsterdam school system and was a graduate of Wilbur H. Lynch High School, Amsterdam.

Dolores was last employed in the clerical department at Breton Industries in Amsterdam.

Dolores was a former parishioner and communicant of the Church of St. John the Baptist and most recently St. Mary’s Church in Amsterdam.

Her husband, Bernard C. Piorkowski predeceased Dolores on November 16, 1996.

Dolores is survived by one son, Frank J Piorkowski (Marie) of Livonia, MI; one daughter, Susan M. Newell of Amsterdam, one sister, Joan Smolen of NJ; four grandchildren, Melissa Piorkowski, Mark Piorkowski, Kara Piorkowski and Colin Newell, two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Kwiatkowski of Amsterdam and Kay Kosiba of Perth, NY; and one brother-in-law, John Trzaskos of Amsterdam. Nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

Dolores was also predeceased by three daughters, Jeanette, Barbara and Elizabeth, one son, Robert and one brother Robert J. Opalka.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 22, 2018 at 11:45 a.m., at the Riley Mortuary, Inc., 110 Division Street, Amsterdam, NY; followed at 12:30 p.m. by a Mass of Christian Burial which will be concelebrated at St. Mary’s Church, 156 East Main Street, Amsterdam with Rev Jeffrey L’Ache, M.S. and Fr. Stanislaus Swierzowski officiating.

Interment will follow at St John’s Cemetery, Amsterdam.

Calling hours are Wednesday, February 21, 2018 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Riley Mortuary.
