It’s with great sadness that we announce the passing of Denise M. Coolidge (Badalucco), who passed away on August 17, 2026 following a difficult recovery from surgery. She was surrounded by her loved ones in Naples, Florida.
Denise was born on July 18, 1960 to her late parents John Badalucco and Carmela Badalucco (Visconti). Growing up in Amsterdam NY, she attended Bishop Scully before transferring to and graduating from Amsterdam High School. After graduation in 1978, she attended the Spencer Business & Technical Institute in Schenectady NY where she received her associates degree focusing on computers and data entry.
She was married to her late husband John Coolidge on October 31, 1992. They moved together to start a life and family on Lake Road in the small town of Galway NY, where they were blessed with one child. Falling in love with the area, they moved to Perth Road in Galway just a few years later. They lived together until life took them in different directions in the late 2010’s.
Spending most of her career in healthcare billing and insurance, she committed over 26 years to St. Mary’s Hospital in Amsterdam NY. Denise worked with close friends from her childhood, as well as met many of her lifelong friends working in the office on Guy Park Ave. While she didn’t live to work, this was like a second family to her, with fond memories of holiday parties, life celebrations (of course with her famous trifle desserts), and always letting her son interrupt her coworkers when he came to visit. She continued her career here by transferring to Wilkinson Residential Health, where she also helped support families and patients until 2021.
After retiring in 2021, Denise moved to sunnier shores in Southwest Florida to a small community in Bonita Springs. After many years of convincing, she followed her passion of cooking and worked for an Italian bakery and restaurant, reminiscent of the great places she grew up visiting in New York. While she loved the Florida life and her friends here for a time, she always wanted to move back to where she grew up and had plans to do so in the near future.
Denise is survived by her son Robert Coolidge and lifelong friend Walter (George) Welke. She is predeceased by her sister Patricia Cook, husband, and parents. Denise also leaves behind many cousins, nephews, nieces, and loving friends who she cherished so dearly.
Realtive and friends are invited to visit with Denise's family on Saturday, September 12, 2026 betwen 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m at Riley Mortuary, 110 Division St., Amsterdam. A Memorial Service will begin at 10:00 a.m. with Fr. O. Robert DiMartinis presiding. Interment to follow at Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Amsterdam, NY.
While Denise loved flowers and we welcome those in her memory, her real passions in life were helping people and her love of animals. We welcome contributions to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, as well as the ASPCA, in memory of not only Denise but the many animals she loved and cared for over the years.
