Bernard “ Skip “ Stanley, 83, of Manny Corners Road, Amsterdam, NY passed away Tuesday morning, November 8, 2011 at St. Mary’s Healthcare in Amsterdam.
Born in Amsterdam on August 11, 1928, he was the son of the late William and Jane McGuire Stanley.
Mr. Stanley was a graduate of St. Mary’s Institute, Class of 1946.
Mr. Stanley was a United States Army veteran of the Korean Conflict with the rank of First Sergeant, serving with Medical Company, 160th Infantry Regiment from Oct. 11, 1950 to Sep. 23, 1952.
He was employed by the Federal Government in Washington, DC, Woody Inc. in Amsterdam and was the owner of Party Line in Amsterdam until his retirement in 1992.
Mr. Stanley was a parishioner and communicant of St. Mary’s Church, and a member of it’s Holy Name Society. He was also a member of the Irish American Club in Amsterdam.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Frenz Stanley to whom he was married on June 26, 1954 at St. Mary’s Church in Amsterdam, two sons, David Stanley (Rex Dancy) of Virginia Beach, VA; and Kevin Stanley (Michele) of Clifton Park, NY; one daughter Gail Mosconi (Rob) of Tribes Hill, NY, seven grandchildren, Kasey Aiken (Russ), Samantha Gallup (Adam), Olivia Mosconi, Natalie Mosconi, Michael Stanley, Brian Stanley and Rachel Stanley and one great grandchild, Rylan Aiken. Mr. Stanley is also survived by a brother in law and sister in law, William and Carol Frenz. Many nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Mr. Stanley was also predeceased by a sister, Jane Dittmann and three brothers, James Stanley, Robert Stanley and Wilson J. Stanley
Funeral services will be held on Friday morning November 11, 2011 at 10:15 at the Riley Mortuary, Inc. 110 Division Street, Amsterdam, followed at 11:00 by a Mass of Christian Burial, which will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Church 156 East Main Street, Amsterdam.
Interment will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Fort Johnson, NY.
Calling hours are Thursday from 5 to 8 at the Riley Mortuary.
