Anna M. Petersen, 79, of Colonie, NY passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, June 29, 2025 with longtime friend and partner in life, Stash Korona by her side.
She was born on September 10, 1945 in Marshfield, Wisconsin, and was the only daughter of Marjorie J. Dishinger Petersen and Walter Petersen.
Anna was a high honors graduate of Guilderland High School, Class of 1963. After graduation, Anna worked a while at Montgomery Ward in Menands, NY. She retired after working thirty years with New York Telephone Company now known as Verizon. Anna later worked for the United States Postal Service as a barcode reader for approximately ten years.
Anna is survived by the love of her life Stanley “Stash” Korona who was also her caregiver over these past years, her brother Lawrence Petersen and his wife Cynthia of Vero Beach, FL and an estranged son, Scott Petersen and her grandchildren Gabriel S. Petersen and Haley Petersen formerly of Pittsfield, MA and several nieces and nephews in the capital district.
Anna cherished her lifelong friendships which she developed through the stages of her life. She was a kind and caring woman, always there for others, especially her bringing best friend Maggie to all of her appointments. She also had a special place in her heart for her cats Mittens and Dizzy, her dog Bella and enjoyed the special visits with her four legged niece, Abbie.
Anna loved butterflies and roses. Anytime she went shopping and found anything with butterflies and roses she would always ask “should I get that?” Above all, Anna enjoyed her time with the love of her life, Stash Korona with whom she enjoyed many motorcycle trips to Maine, Nova Scotia, and Tennessee. She loved the camaraderie of “ the group” and had many fun times traveling together. Anna's latest trip was a cruise with her beloved Stash and his brother Ken Korona and sister-in-law Joyce Korona who were so helpful in ensuring Anna had a memorable time, especially in the casino. She was very adventurous when she could be.
Anna was an avid reader and found that to be very calming and relaxing. She used to trade books with her mother who also enjoyed reading everyday. Anna also enjoyed all kinds of arts & crafts, painting, creating ceramic pottery, and completing word searches.
A very special “thank you” is extended to the 2nd floor staff at Capstone Rehabilitation and Nursing Center for their excellent care of Anna.
