Aniello “Dan” Pirfo, 91, of McClellan Avenue, Amsterdam, NY; passed away Wednesday, November 15, 2017 at Albany Medical Center.
Born in Amsterdam, NY; on January 5, 1926, he was the son of the late Oreste and Angelina Tambasco Pirfo.
Dan received his education in the Amsterdam school system and graduated from Wilbur H. Lynch High School. He also attended Barber School in New York City.
Dan was an honorably discharged United States Navy veteran, serving aboard the U.S.S. Washington during World War II.
He was the owner of Dan Pirfo’s Barber Shop in Amsterdam for many years.
Dan was a former parishioner and communicant of St. Michael the Archangel Church and currently Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Amsterdam.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 209 and a member of the former St. Agnello Club, both in Amsterdam.
Dan is survived by his wife, the former Marian Pappalardo Pirfo at home, one son, Oreste Russ Pirfo (Marlene) of Port Charlotte, FL; and one daughter, Sally Josephine Pirfo of Naples, FL. Nieces and nephews also survive.
Dan was also predeceased by his grandson, Dan Alexander Pirfo, one brother, Joseph F. Pirfo and three sisters, Michelina Nicotera, Josephine Pirfo and “Ethel” Raffaela Tessitore.
Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects to the family, Saturday morning from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., prior to the Mass of Christian Burial, which will be celebrated by Fr. Lawrence Decker at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 39 St. John Street, Amsterdam, NY.
Interment with full military honors will follow at St. Michael’s Cemetery, Amsterdam.
Memorial gifts in Dan’s name may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
