Aaron Aurelio Acevedo

Aaron Aurelio Acevedo, of Amsterdam, NY, passed away peacefully on July 4th, surrounded by loving family and friends, after a long battle with kidney and heart complications. Born on February 20, 1971, to Hector Acevedo and Patricia Klein, Aaron spent his early years in Jacksonville, NC while his father served in the Marine Corps, later returning to upstate New York. He attended Schenectady schools through tenth grade and graduated from Schoharie High School after moving to Sloansville.

Aaron met the love of his life, Jeannine, and the two were married on September 1, 1990. Shortly afterward, Aaron enlisted in the U.S. Navy in November 1990, serving proudly alongside his brother Adam. His nine years of service included time aboard the USS John F. Kennedy and travels throughout Europe and the Mediterranean. During these years, Aaron and Jeannine lived in Millington, TN; Norfolk, VA; Philadelphia, PA; and Jacksonville, FL, where they remained after his discharge.

Aaron’s lifelong passion for tabletop and video games led him into the gaming industry upon returning to civilian life. He later moved back to New York and, in 2005, founded Sigil Entertainment Group, building a successful creative studio with Jeannine’s unwavering support. Over 27 years, Aaron contributed to an extraordinary range of tabletop RPGs, card games, and board games, helping shape new worlds and bringing joy to players around the globe. Sigil will continue under the leadership of his brothers, Ben and Alec.

In 2014, Aaron and Jeannine settled in Amsterdam, to be closer to the family and friends he cherished. When Jeannine became terminally ill in 2021, Aaron remained devoted to her care until her passing. As his own health declined, his family—especially his youngest brother Ben and Ben’s wife Emma—provided steadfast support, ultimately becoming his full‑time caregivers. Their love and sacrifice will forever be remembered with deep gratitude.

Aaron is survived by his parents, Hector & Diane Acevedo and Patricia & Neal Klein; his siblings Adam (Dianne), Maria (Stephen), Sam (Kayla), Alec (Holly), and Ben (Emma); and his nieces and nephews Isabelle, Franklyn, Logan, Hayden, Aubrey, Silas, and Remi. He is predeceased by his beloved wife Jeannine and his sister Heather.

Private services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the GoFundMe campaign set up for Aaron, to now support Sigil Entertainment Group.
