Vincenzo R. Nicosia

Vincenzo R. “Jim” Nicosia, 90, of Amsterdam, NY; passed away Saturday, March 18, 2023 at St. Mary’s Healthcare in Amsterdam.

Born in Gloversville, NY on October 28, 1932, he was the son of Vincenzo and Genueffa Argento Nicosia.

Jim received his education in the Gloversville school system and was a graduate of Gloversville High School. He also attended Devry Technical Institute in Woodbridge Township, NJ.

Jim was employed by the Amsterdam Fire Department for several years and subsequently was a Production Supervisor at Liberty Enterprises in Amsterdam. Jim also served as 3rd Ward Alderman in the City of Amsterdam for two terms.

Jim is survived by his wife, Elaine M. Pagliaro Nicosia whom he married on May 11, 1952. Also surviving are one daughter, Lori Krom (Bill) of Norwich, NY; four sons. James (Linda), Edward, David (Marie) all of Amsterdam and Michael (Cathy) of Fort Johnson, NY, twelve grandchildren, Fourteen great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Jim was also predeceased by thirteen siblings.

Calling hours will be held Friday, March 24, 2023 from 4 to 7 p.m.at the Riley Mortuary, Inc., 110 Division Street, Amsterdam, NY 12010.

Relatives and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial Saturday morning, March 25, 2023 at 11:00 at St. Mary’s Church, 156 East Main Street, Amsterdam, NY 12010, with Fr. Martin Kordel, CRL as celebrant.

Interment will follow at St. Michael’s Cemetery in Amsterdam, NY
