Sylvia Mulhearn

Sylvia Mulhearn, 79, of Amsterdam, NY; passed away Thursday morning, February 22, 2018 at St. Mary’s Healthcare with her loving family by her side.

Born in Manhattan, NY; on September 30, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Maria Louise LaVaga Garcia.

Sylvia received her education in the New York City school system, attended Nursing School and was employed as a Certified Nurse’s Aide in Westwood NJ.

Sylvia is survived by one son, David Henry Mulhearn (Tammy) of the state of FL; two daughters, Susan Amy Mulhearn (William O’Dowd) and Darlene Mulhearnmann (Kenneth deceased) all of Amsterdam, one sister Josephine Periantoni of the state of CA; twelve grandchildren, Joshua Mulhearn (Evelyn), Jessalynn C. Fancher (Eric), Carissa Haines (Thomas), Benjamin Purcell, Noah T. Mulhearnmann, Moriahlynn Mulhearnmann, Jason D. O’Dowd, Matthew A. O’Dowd, Elizabeth A. O’Dowd, MaryEllen S. O’Dowd, Lindsay Mulhearn (Curtis) and Christopher and nine great grandchildren. Many nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

Sylvia was also predeceased by three brothers and one sister.

Sylvia was a hard working, loving mother and grandmother, who was also loved and will be missed by all who knew her.

Funeral services will be held Monday, February 26, 2018 at 6:00 p.m. at the Riley Mortuary, Inc. 110 Division Street, Amsterdam, NY 12010, with Rev. William T. Hodgetts officiating.

Relatives and friends are invited to call at the Riley Mortuary from 4 to 6 p.m. prior to the funeral service.
