Raymond Garrison

Raymond C. Garrison Sr., 71 of Florida Avenue, Amsterdam, NY; passed away Tuesday morning August 21, 2012 at home.

Born in Quarryville, NY; on May 28, 1941, he was the son of the late Elwood and Rosella Craft Garrison.

Ray received his education in the Amsterdam school system and was a graduate of Wilbur H. Lynch High School, Class of 1959.

Ray was a United States Navy Veteran serving from 1959 to 1963

He was a foreman for Niagara Mohawk Power Company, retiring in 1999.

Ray was a member of the John J. Wyszomirski American Legion Post 701, the Southside Veterans, both in Amsterdam and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local Union 97 AFL - CIO & CLC of Albany, NY.

His wife Rosemary Persico Garrison to whom he was married on February 8, 1964 survives Ray. He is also survived by two sons, Raymond C. Garrison Jr. and Michael (Mary Chris) Garrison all of Amsterdam. Three sisters, Letty Rudes of Speculator, NY, Betty Lou Coolman of Virginia Beach, VA and Winifred Stevens of Saugerties, NY, one brother, Barry Craft of Saugerties, NY. Two grandsons, Michael C. Garrison and Christopher R. Garrison both of Amsterdam. Many nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

Ray was also predeceased by his brother, Randy Garrison.

Funeral services will be held on Friday morning at 8:30 at the Riley Mortuary, Inc. 110 Division Street, Amsterdam, NY; followed at 9:15 by a Mass of Christian Burial, which will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Church, 156 East Main Street, Amsterdam.

Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Fort Johnson, NY.

Calling hours are Thursday from 4 to 7 at the Riley Mortuary.

Memorial gifts in Ray’s name may be made to Community Hospice of Amsterdam, 246 Manny Corners Road, Amsterdam, NY, 12010 or to a charity of one’s choice.
