Patricia Blodgett

Patricia “Pat” Blodgett (nee Timken) died peacefully on December 18, 2020 in Amsterdam.
Pat was born and raised in Augusta, Kansas. WWII began during her first year of junior college. She was proud of the fact that she commuted to college and to a job at the Boeing Aircraft Factory in nearby Wichita. In 1943, she was able to continue her education at Marquette University in Milwaukee, WI. She graduated magna cum laude in 1945 with a degree in Journalism.
1n 1946, she met a returning vet, Morris Blodgett. They were married on October 21, 1946. Morris and Pat moved to Neillsville, WI where they became active members of their community and raised their five daughters. Pat was proud of her involvement in getting a UW extension campus established in nearby Marshfield.
Job changes saw the family leave Neillsville. They moved to Ripon, WI in 1967 then on to Springfield, PA in 1968.
As their daughters grew up, Pat returned to college at Villanova University and received a Master’s Degree in Library Science. After graduation, she accepted a position at Villanova in the Acquisitions Department of their library where she worked for 18 years.
Pat’s mother was a treasure trove of family stories. A desire to save these stories and learn more of her family history and enabled by research skills she had learned set Pat on the course that would be the hallmark of the next decades of her life.
She became an accomplished, self-taught genealogist. With her sister, Marilyn Casanova, they researched and published 5 extensive genealogy histories of their family. The two women and their husbands spent enjoyable years “ancestor hunting” the old-fashioned way……traveling to small towns, cemeteries, churches and court houses across the US, Ireland and Germany. In doing so, they met and enjoyed long-term relationships with newly-found relatives.
Pat and Morris moved to a retirement community in Cornwall, PA in 1980. Though somewhat slowed down, they continued to travel, enjoying trips to Egypt, China, Greece and Russia. They also continued their active participation in the lives of their daughters and grandchildren.
After her husband’s death in 2001, Pat moved into assisted living residences close to her daughters and was able to enjoy her life.
Pat was preceded in death by her husband Morris. She is survived by her five daughters; Francie Pearson (John), Carol Stacy, Sarah Segura, Ellen Bialobok (Joe), and Jane Sinclair (Brad); her sister, Marilyn Casanova; eleven grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren.
Her daughters share this: Our mom was an amazing woman; intelligent, outgoing, intensely curious and well-read. She enjoyed a good game of bridge as much as a rousing game of beer-pong. She could bait her hook and pull in a legal musky; she could also make doll clothes and prom dresses.
She was a woman of great integrity, deep faith in God and incredible determination. Her passion for her family shines through in her genealogy research.
We will miss her but celebrate the life she gave us, the lessons she taught us and the thousands of memories she is forever a part of.
We five are profoundly proud and grateful to be her “Girls”
A memorial mass will be held at St. Joseph’s Church, Broadalbin, NY at a later date and time to be announced. A memorial mass will also be held at St. Peter & Paul Church in Exton, PA; with interment to follow at Indian Gap National Cemetery in PA.
