Mary Lou Carney

Mary Lou Rigosu Carney, 74, of Hagaman, NY; passed away Tuesday morning July 17 2018 at home.

Born in Albany, NY she was the daughter of the late Vincent and Stella Trojan Rigosu.

Mary Lou was a graduate of Vincentian Institute. She also received her degree in Medical Technology from Albany College of Pharmacy.

Mary Lou was employed by Amsterdam Memorial Hospital Laboratory for nineteen years. She retired from St Mary’s Healthcare in Amsterdam, NY in 2010.

Mary Lou was a parishioner and communicant of St. Stephens Church in Hagaman, NY.

In March of 2018, Mary Lou was awarded second place for her recipe, “Family Style Irish Soda Bread” at the Irish American Heritage Museum in Albany NY. She was also a member of St. Mary’s Healthcare Auxiliary. She participated in local hikes her with her friends, known as the “Hiking Chicks”. Mary Lou was passionate about swimming with the “mermaids” in a local pool.

Mary Lou was married to James J. Carney, who survives, on September 9, 1967. She is also survived by her three daughters, Stephanie Carney Manske (Jason) of Brooklyn, NY; Tricia A. Carney and Elise M Carney both of Manhattan, NY; two grandchildren, Nicholas Carney Manske and Sydney Carney Manske of Brooklyn; her brother, Vincent Rigosu (Cecilia) of Albany, NY; and sister-in-law, Mary E. Carney of Albany, NY. Nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial, which will be celebrated on Saturday morning July 21, 2018 at 11:00 at St. Stephens Church, 51 N. Pawling Street, Hagaman, NY, with Fr O. Robert DeMartinis officiating.

Calling hours will be held from 9:00 to 11:00 prior to the funeral mass at St. Stephens Church.
