Joseph Phelps

Joseph J. Phelps Sr., 79, of State Highway 67, Amsterdam, NY; passed away Saturday evening September 22, 2012 at St. Mary's Healthcare in Amsterdam.

Born in Rotterdam, NY; on September 21, 1933, he was a son of the late George W. and Emily Barrett Phelps Sr.

Joe received his education in the Amsterdam school system.

Joe was employed as a Machinist-Foreman at Electro-Metrics in Amsterdam, retiring in 1995.

Joe is survived by his wife, Mary Jane Phelps, two sons, Joseph J. Phelps Jr. (Ann) and James Phelps SR. (Vincenza) all of Amsterdam, two daughters, Mary Lou Phelps of Amsterdam and Melissa Phelps Kelly (Eric Stigberg) of Broadalbin, NY; nine grandchildren, Danielle Phelps Lavigne, Jillian Phelps,Justin Boyles, Stephen Kelly, Donald Boyles,Emily Phelps, Joseph Kelly, James Phelps Jr; and Kylie Stigberg, one great grandson, Jack Lavigne, three brothers, Roy Phelps (Delores), Robert "Pete" Phelps (Donna) all of Amsterdam and Daniel Phelps (Ellen) of Ballston Spa, NY; two sisters, Shirley Bubniak (Raymond) and Ginny Agresta of Amsterdam. Many nieces, nephews, cousins and his pets, Zoey and Peanut also survive.

Joe was also predeceased by five brothers, George W. Phelps Jr; John Phelps, Guy Phelps, Thomas Phelps and William F. "Horse Phelps and two sisters, Rose Kwiatkowski and Inez Gibson.

Joe love Thursday night Bingo at the Elks Lodge, the New York Yankees, bird watching, camping, taking care of his yard and lawn and most of all spending time with his family.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday morning at 11:00 A.M. at the Riley Mortuary, Inc. 110 Division Street, Amsterdam, NY. 12010.

Interment will be at Green Hill Cemetery, Amsterdam.

Calling hours are Tuesday from 5 to 8 P.M. at the Riley Mortuary.
