Jean S Downey

Jean S. Downey, 97, formerly of New Street, Amsterdam, NY, passed away Monday morning October 12, 2015 Homelife at Folts in Herkimer, NY.

Born in Amsterdam, NY on October 14, 1917, she was the daughter of the late John and Caroline Ruby.

Jean received her education in the Amsterdam school system and the Amsterdam School of Commerce.

Jean was employed as a legal secretary for Richard T. Horrigan Law firm in Amsterdam.

Her husband, Richard T. Downey to whom she married January 7, 1938 passed away April 25, 2007.

Jean is survived by two sons, Richard D. Downey of Amsterdam, NY and Michael D. Downey of Rensselaer, NY; one daughter, Kathleen M. Steele of Minaville, NY; six grandchildren, Jerome Downey, Richard Steele, Mark Sorbero, Scott Steele, Brian Downey and Kristen Mantello and seven great grandchildren.

Jean was also predeceased by her daughter-in-law, Joan Downey on July 26, 2014.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning October 14, 2015 at 11:00 at the Riley Mortuary, Inc., 110 Division Street, Amsterdam, NY 12010

Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Fort Johnson, NY.

A calling hour will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 prior to the funeral service
