Herbert Scialabba

Herbert D. “Herb” Scialabba, 83, of Bylina Lane, Amsterdam, NY; passed away Wednesday morning July 24, 2013 at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady, NY.

Born in Brooklyn, NY on October 20, 1929, he was the son of the late Samuel and Rose Thomson Scialabba.

Herb received his education in the Red Hook School system in Red Hook NY.

Herb was employed as a purchasing agent for Fiber Glass Industries in Amsterdam.

Herb was a member of the Amsterdam Lions Club, the Chamber of Commerce and the United Way. Herb was a life member of the Council of the PTA for his service to the community, he was a past member of the Amsterdam Board of Education, a member of the Amsterdam Baseball Hall of Fame, co-manager and founder of Bergen Post 39 baseball team, and was elected as citizen of the year by the YMCA in 2002, and was a volunteer for the American Heart and American Cancer Society’s.

Herb is survived by his wife, Theresa Coluccio Scialabba to whom he married October 21, 1950, two sons, Ernest Scialabba, his girlfriend Michele Yeager and her child Russell Dickson of Bondville, VT; and Samuel Scialabba (Ellen) of Jamaica, VT; two daughters, Vicki Saffin (Ronald) of Marco Island, FL; and Marybeth Jermyn (Scott) of Rochester, NY; two grandchildren, Chelsea and Anthony Scialabba, one sister, Rosemary Stancampiano of Rochester, NY; one aunt, Adelaide Lange of Inverness, FL; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Saturday morning at 9:15 at the Riley Mortuary, Inc. 110 Division Street,
Amsterdam, NY; followed at 10:00 by a Mass of Christian Burial, which will be celebrated at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church 39 St. John Street, Amsterdam.

Interment will follow at St. Michael’s Cemetery in Amsterdam, NY.

Calling hours are Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Riley Mortuary.
