Frank L.”Aldo” Marcellino, 90, a current resident of River Ridge Living Center and formerly of Center Street, Amsterdam passed away Friday morning December 21, 2012 after a brief Illness.

Born in Fort Plain, NY on November 25, 1922, he was the son of Thomas and Helen Riso Marcellino.

Frank was a 1941 graduate of Wilbur H. Lynch High School in Amsterdam.

In 1942, he enlisted in the United States Navy as a motor machinist, serving on the USS Monrovia out of Norfolk, Virginia. He was awarded the Purple Heart Medal for wounds received in 1945 while he was serving his country during World War II in the South Pacific and the Philippines. While serving in the Navy, he was also a light weight boxer, winning the Golden Gloves Award. Frank continued to box locally after being honorably discharged from the Navy.

Frank was employed at Alco and General Electric in Schenectady as an assembler in the Gas-Turbine Division. He later worked at the Grand Union Store in Amsterdam. After retirement he worked on the Green Thumb Program on the NYS Thruway and at Hill & Marks in Amsterdam. Frank made many friends and enjoyed the company of his co-workers. He spent most of his life on the Southside and enjoyed the company of many local friends from Herk’s Tavern, LaCuccina, Shorty’s restaurant and the Armory Grill. Special friends, “Flip” Bracchi, Joey Parillo, Michael and Nickie Sampone, Vince Turo, Felix Persico, “Rogo” Sandy Roginski, Rich and Louise Godlewski, Michael Lazarou, Joe St. John and members of the Masto and Lanzie families as well as many other friends.

Frank was a parishioner and communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Amsterdam. He enjoyed working on the parish spaghetti dinner and other fund raisers. He was also a member of St. Anthony of Mount Carmel, Mount Carmel Holy Name Society, the Southside Bocci League and the Southside Veterans.

Frank’s wife, Helen Agosta Marcellino to whom he married on September 9, 1951, passed away on July 21, 1974. He is survived by his beloved daughter, Melanie (Thomas) Coman and granddaughter, Mianna of Amsterdam, his son Frank (Kristina) Marcellino of Amsterdam. His his beloved grandsons, Lucas (April) Marcellino and great granddaughter, Lea Marie of Amsterdam, Marcus (Trista) Marcellino and great granddaughter, Sophia of Amsterdam, Jonathan Marcellino of Amsterdam and Joseph Marcellino and his fiance, Danielle Carlos of Connecticut, his beloved sister, Isabel (Tony) Damiano of Amsterdam and sister-in-law, Joyce Marcellino of Northville, his beloved sisters and brothers in laws, Roseanne (Duane) Yager, Carl (Veronica) Agosta and Gabriel (Ann) Agosta of Amsterdam; He is also survived by many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.

Frank was predeceased by his brothers, Thomas and Tony (Carmella).

Funeral services will be held on Monday morning at 10:45 at the Riley Mortuary, Inc. 110 Division Street, Amsterdam, NY, followed at 11:15 by a Mass of Christian Burial, which will be celebrated at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church 39 St. John Street, Amsterdam.

Interment will follow at Fort Plain Cemetery, Fort Plain, NY.

Friends are invited to call at the Riley Mortuary from 8:30 to 10:45 prior to the services.

Memorial gift in Frank’s name may be made to Mount Carmel Memorial Fund P.O. Box 699 or to River Ridge Living Center (Activity Fund) 100 Sandy Drive both of Amsterdam, NY. 12010.
