Floyd J. Nelli, 81, of Broadalbin, NY and formerly of Amsterdam, NY; passed away Thursday morning, January 23, 2020 after a long illness.

Born on the South Side of Amsterdam, NY on March 28, 1938, he was the son of the late Sisto and Marianannine Parillo Nelli.

Floyd received his education in the Amsterdam school system.

Floyd retired from the City of Amsterdam Department of Public Works, where he was a Head Foreman and heavy equipment operator for over 30 years.

Floyd was an honorably discharged United States Army veteran, serving in Germany from 1955 to 1957.
He was a member of AFSCME local Union 1614 and the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 1185 Johnstown, NY. He was also co-owner of the former F & F Coffee Pot, which was also located on the South Side.
Floyd was an avid golfer for over 20 years, playing often with his brother Pete who was also with Floyd when Floyd shot his “hole in one”. Floyd was also an exceptional dart shooter, carrying high average many times, and leading many of his teams to championships. He also enjoyed playing pool for many years with his brothers, Jim, Pete and Al.

Floyd and his longtime friend and companion, Judith Vollmer loved travelling across the country and stopping at Casinos along the way. He was known as the “Chauffer” to many family and friends throughout the years. His first love however was singing. He sang at many parties and weddings for family and friends. Floyd also created a CD of music and the songs he sang that will be treasured by many for years to come. Floyd was an idol to many of the Southside’s next generation.

Floyd is survived by two daughters, Lisa Kaminski of Seneca Falls, NY and Stefanie Nelli of Astoria Queens, NY, his two twin grandsons, who Floyd was so proud of, Alex and Landon Kaminski his longtime companion and friend, Judith Vollmer and her daughters, Kara Vollmer of Amsterdam and Marnie Vollmer of Sharon Springs, NY; two brothers, Peter Nelli (Dorothy) of Gloversville, NY and Alfred Nelli (Emma) of Amsterdam, one sister-in-law, Katherine “Kit” Nelli of Connecticut, his nephew, and great friends John and his wife, Mary Nelli. Many nieces, nephews, cousins and loyal friends also survive.

Floyd was predeceased by his brothers and their wife’s, James and Gloria, Joseph, husband of Katherine, Frank (Bo), John (Sparkie) and Mary, and Mario and Diane.

The family would like to acknowledge Kara Vollmer with a heartfelt thank you, who unselfishly gave her time for the past 3 years assisting with Floyd’s medical needs and comfort. Kara’s dedication will always be cherished. Also to his great friend Joe Marotta who was there for him, keeping Floyd entertained playing Rummy many times a week. A special thank you also to Mountain Valley Hospice for their care during Floyd’s illness.

Cremation took place at Park View Crematorium in Schenectady, NY,

A memorial service will be held Saturday afternoon, February 1, 2020 at 2:30at the Riley Mortuary, Inc., 110 Division Street, Amsterdam, NY 12010

Calling hours will be held from 12:30 to 2:30 prior to the funeral service at the Riley Mortuary.
