Eleanor Letitia Saltsman

Eleanor Letitia O’Day Saltsman, 85, of Amsterdam passed away peacefully on November 6, 2019.

Born on January 14, 1934, Eleanor was the daughter of John “Jack” O’Day and Eleanor Letitia Gaffney O’Day.

She attended local schools and resided in Amsterdam for her entire life, while also cherishing her family roots in Saratoga Springs.

Eleanor was a lifelong caregiver and was a Certified Nursing Assistant for more than 25 years.

She loved doing the crossword every day, and was an avid reader, devouring almost every mystery and spy novel at the Amsterdam Free Library. She was immensely proud of her Irish heritage, and fulfilled a lifetime dream of visiting the Emerald Isle in 1993. She hosted a well-attended annual St. Patrick’s Day celebration, where all were welcome. She loved being the matriarch of her large Irish family, which consisted of her seven daughters and extended family and friends. Her door was always open, and the coffee pot always on.

Eleanor was predeceased by her husband, Marion “Salzy” Saltsman, daughter, Barbara Corridon, and siblings, William and Henrietta O’Day. She is survived by her daughters, Colleen Baker (the late Richard Baker), Lori Rambler (Joseph Rambler), Lisa Sharpe, Amy Stegman (the late Rob Stegman), Carrie Hazzard and Sara Saltsman (Patrick Pryor); nine grandchildren, Carly Baker (Joe Newborn), Chantel Smith (Rich Smith), Amanda Corridon (Lucas Schaufelberg), Jeffrey Zepperi, Jack Sharpe, Anne Stegman, Claire Sharpe, Nicholas Pryor and Natalie Pryor; six great-grandchildren, Elijah, Josiah and Kaylee Newborn, Olivia Knudsen, Violet Smith and AysahZepperi; and nieces, nephews and cousins.

During the last few years, Eleanor was lovingly cared for by several caregivers, for which her family is eternally grateful.
