Dorothy L. Lindsay, 91, formerly of Cranes Hollow Road, Cranesville, NY; passed away Monday evening September 28, 2015 at Stanton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Glens Falls, NY.

Born in Amsterdam, NY on May 29, 1924, she was the daughter of Donald D. and Clara L. Duncovich Loucks.

Dottie attended the former St. Joseph’s School, and graduated from the former St. Mary’s Institute, class of 1942. She declined a scholarship to the College of St. Rose, but later attended Schenectady County Community College.

Dottie married R. Gardner Lindsay Jr., on June 16, 1946. They lived for a brief time in New London, CT; where he was stationed during his naval service. They returned to Amsterdam in 1947 and resided there together until his death in 2002.

Dottie was an active PTA member of the elementary, parochial, and high schools that her children attended, and held various positions in these organizations. She was also a member of the former Junior Century Club, the Century Club, St. Mary’s Hospital Auxiliary, the association of Tax Employees, and Retired Public Employees Association. She also served on the board of the Sarah Jane Sanford Home.

She and her husband “Gardy “, bowled together and enjoyed traveling together during their retirement.

Prior to her marriage, Dorothy worked in her family’s bakery, as an operator for the NY Telephone Company and at the Naval Depot in Scotia. Once married, she was employed by Amsterdam Printing & Litho and Collette’s Manufacturing Co. She retired as a Supervising Tax Technician from the NY State Department of Taxation and Finance in 1991.

She was predeceased by her parents, brother, Jack Loucks and husband, Gardy Lindsay.

Dottie is survived by her son, Peter G. Lindsay (Jill) of Queensbury, NY; two daughters, Susan L Phillips (Tom) of Port Charlotte, FL; and Leslie Lindsay of Maynard, MA. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

Funeral services will be held Saturday morning October 3, 2015 at 11:00 at the Riley Mortuary, Inc., 110 Division Street, Amsterdam, NY 12010.

Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Amsterdam.

Calling hours are Friday October 2, 2015 from 5 to 8 at the Riley Mortuary.
