Delores J. Fitzdam

Delores J. Fitzdam, 87, formerly of Tribes Hill, NY; passed away Saturday October 5, 2019 at River Ridge Living Center in Amsterdam, NY.

Born in Amsterdam, NY on June 9, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Edgar and Bessie Seeley Gillis.

Delores received her education in the Amsterdam school system and was a graduate of Wilbur H. Lynch High School. After graduating she took courses for Swimming Instructor at Skidmore College and course to become a teacher’s assistant at Fulton Montgomery Community College.

Delores worked for 27 years as a Swimming Instructor and Teacher’s Assistant at Fonda Fultonville Central School, from which she retired in 1992.

Delores was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Tribes Hill, where she was a Deacon and Sunday School Teacher. She was also a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma at Fonda Fultonville Central School and an advisor for cheerleaders, Class of 1985, girls track and swimming coach. She was also Cub Scout Leader and volunteered at William B. Tecler School in Amsterdam.

On June 10, 1951, Delores married Harold Fitzdam and after 39 years, he passed away on November 28, 1990. Delores was also predeceased by 3 brothers, Edward, Charles and Robert Gillis, 2 sisters, Marjorie Langdon and Betty Cole.

Delores is survived by one son, Wayne Otto Fitzdam (Martha) of Raleigh, NC; one daughter, Debora, Fitzdam of Hagaman, NY; three grandchildren, Justin Fitzdam (Stacey) of Franklin, TN; Sarah Wood (Dan) of Raleigh, NC; and Lei Lei Secor of Manhattan, NY and one great grandson, Callan Wood of Raleigh, NC. Nieces and nephews also survive.

It was Delores’ request there will be no calling hours, and a graveside service of remembrance will be held at a later date and time to be announced.
