Darlene A Oakes

Darlene A. Oakes, 71, of Clizbe Avenue, Amsterdam, NY; passed away Tuesday evening October 6, 2015 at Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility with her loving family by her side.

Born in Amsterdam on June 7, 1944, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence and A. Barbara Lansburg Yevoli.

A lifelong city resident, Darlene was a graduate of the former Wilbur H. Lynch High School. She retired as a secretary from Teamsters Local 294 in Albany, NY, and enjoyed many activities in her retirement. She was a member of the Ladies of Charity and the Southside Bocce League, and enjoyed shooting pool with Tom on Thursday nights.

Darlene loved her family and friends. Her front door was always open, no knocking required. Inevitably you would walk in and find friends and cousins sharing a cup of coffee. Always someone who was there for others, family was everything to Darlene. Especially dear to her were her grandchildren, who were the light of her life.

Darlene is survived by her loving husband of 44 years, Thomas Oakes to whom she married April 17, 1971, two daughters, Amy (David) Krogman of Gansevoort, NY and Kathe (Jason) Mahler of Amsterdam, NY; her brother Lawrence (Gloria) Yevoli; sister-in-law, Jeanette Yevoli; and four grandchildren, Taylor, Thomas, Amelia and Angela. A niece, nephews, many cousins and dear friends also survive.

Darlene was also predeceased by a brother, Vincent J. Yevoli Sr.

The family would like to give a special thank you to the nurses and staff on the 2nd floor north wing at Wilkinson for their compassion and care during Darlene’s stay.

Funeral services will be held Saturday October 10, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the Riley Mortuary, Inc., 110 Division Street, Amsterdam, NY 12010.

Interment will follow at Hagaman Cemetery.

Relatives and friends may call Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Riley Mortuary. The Ladies of Charity are requested to meet at the Funeral Home at 6:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts in Darlene’s name may be made to Ladies of Charity, 29 Crane Street, Amsterdam or to Wilkinson RHCF, Activities Fund, 4988 State Highway 30, Amsterdam, NY 12010.
