Carmela Spakoski

Carmela “Carm” Spakoski, 81, of Edson Street, Amsterdam, NY; passed away August 9, 2021 at Nathan Littauer Nursing Home in Gloversville, NY.

Born in Amsterdam, NY on July 25, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Anthony and Margaret Reichel Persico.

Carm received her education and graduated from St. Mary’s Institute in Amsterdam.

Carm was a communicant at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church and St. Mary’s Church, both in Amsterdam.

She was employed by NYS, working in the Department of Taxation & Finance, the Card Boutique in Amsterdam and retired as an Aide in the Greater Amsterdam School District.

Carm enjoyed getting together with family and friends.

On October 28, 1962, she was united in marriage to Joseph Spakoski. Joe recently passed away on March 29, 2021. Carm is survived by her daughter, Justine Schebel (Michael) of Perth, NY; one grandson Michael Schebel of Perth and several nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

Carm was also predeceased by her brother, Patrick J. “Patsy” Persico.

Calling hours are Thursday, August 12, 2021 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Riley Mortuary, Inc., 110 Division Street, Amsterdam, NY 12010.

Relatives and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial, which will be celebrated Friday morning at 9:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church 39 St. John Street, Amsterdam, NY 12010.

Interment will follow at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Cemetery, Amsterdam.

Carmela’s family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Nathan Littauer Nursing Home for the compassion and care they gave her during her stay at the facility.
