Betty Lou Mahoney

Betty Lou Mahoney, 87, of Amsterdam, NY passed away February 1, 2023 at Saratoga Hospital.

Born in Amsterdam, NY on October 11, 1935, she was the daughter of Martin and Anna Teller McClary.

Betty Lou received her education in the Amsterdam school system and was a graduate of Wilbur H. Lynch Senior High School.

She retired from St. Mary’s Hospital, where she was a Switchboard Operator

Betty Lou was a parishioner of St. Mary’s Church.in Amsterdam.

She married Terrance Mahoney on October 17, 1954.

In addition to her husband, Betty Lou is survived by one son, Terrance Mahoney (Marianne), six daughters, Elizabeth Austin, Maggie Nolan, Susan Grasso (Scott), Mary Funkhouser, Shannon Hoogkamp (William) and Heather Mendez (Jason) fourteen grandchildren, Tara Drenzek, Colleen Conway, Jason Austin, Jennifer Goodwin, Kelly Nolan, Danielle Grasso, Emily Sempf, Ryan Mahoney, Riley Mahoney, Dean Greenwood, Katie Sulo, Isabella Bloss, Juliana Bloss and Nick Bloss.six beloved great grandchildren and nieces and nephews

Betty Lou was predeceased by her daughter Kathleen Drenzek, and sons in law Al Drenzek and Edward Austin, and her brother Martin McClary.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 7, 2023 at 10:15 at the Riley Mortuary, Inc., 110 Division Street, Amsterdam, NY 12010, followed at 11:00 by a Mass of Christian Burial , which will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Church 156 East Main Street, Amsterdam with Fr. Martin Kordel, CRL as celebrant.

Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Fort Johnson, NY.

Calling hours are Monday February 6, 2023 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Riley Mortuary.
