Barbara Baia

Barbara J. Baia, 87, of County Highway 155, Gloversville, NY; passed away Monday January 26, 2015 at St. Mary’s Healthcare in Amsterdam, NY.

Born in Little Falls, NY on June 23, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Argie and Marion Prentice Placidi.

Barbara received her education and graduated from St. Mary’s Academy in Little Falls.

She was employed as a dietician at Amsterdam Memorial Hospital and also at Clara S. Bacon School, in Amsterdam.

Barbara was a parishioner and communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church and was also an avid bowler in the Fifth Ward League in Amsterdam.

Her husband Alfred “Freddie” Baia to whom she married May 23, 1948, predeceased Barbara on January 16, 1990.

Barbara is survived by her son, Joseph Baia (Janine) of Amsterdam, NY; two grandsons, Joseph and Bryan Baia and her sister, Rosalie Fallove (Sam) of Utica, NY. Nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

Funeral services will be held Friday morning at 10:30 at the Riley Mortuary, Inc., 110 Division Street, Amsterdam, NY, followed at 11:15 by a Mass of Christian Burial, which will be celebrated at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 39 St. John Street, Amsterdam.

Interment will take place at Mount Carmel Cemetery, Amsterdam.

Calling hours are Thursday from 4 to 7 at the Riley Mortuary.
