Anthony Masterpolo

Anthony ”Honey” Masterpolo, 92, formerly of Florida Avenue, Amsterdam, NY, passed away Friday afternoon January 20, 2012 on his 92nd Birthday at River Ridge Living Center in Amsterdam.

Born in Schenectady, NY, he was the son of the late Anthony and Catherine Margiotta Masterpolo. Before joining the service he resided in Rotterdam Junction, NY.

Anthony was employed as an advertisement salesman for the Daily Gazette Newspaper in Schenectady, NY, retiring in 1985

Anthony was a parishioner and communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Amsterdam.

Anthony was a United States Army veteran serving from 1942 to 1945. He was Honorably Discharged with the rank of Corporal. He was also Honorably Discharged from Civilian Conservation Corps.

He was a member of the Southside Veterans Association; he was a former member of the Sons of Italy and the Knights of Columbus Council, 209 in Amsterdam.

His wife, Mary Carmella Simiele to whom he married in September of 1946, passed away in 1991, he is survived by one son, Michael (Bernadine) Masterpolo a daughter Doreen (Wayne) Costner all of Amsterdam, NY, two granddaughters Vanessa (Matthew) Seiden and Talia Masterpolo, and great grandson Michael James Seiden, a sister-in-law, Gilda Simiele and brother-in-law, Robert Simiele. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Anthony will always be remembered for his great tomato garden, cooking, playing bocce at family functions and his love of dancing.

The family is most grateful to the Hillcrest Spring Adult Home and their entire staff for their wonderful care and concern while he was a resident. He also enjoyed playing bingo and hanging out with his friend, Elvada.

Funeral services will be private in accordance with Anthony’s wishes.

Interment will be at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Cemetery.
