Anne N. Harrington, 83 of Evelyn Avenue, Amsterdam, NY passed away Sunday January 1, 2012 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Amsterdam, NY.

Born in Troy, NY on July 19, 1928, she was a daughter of the late Philip and Blanche Canfield Casey.

Anne was a graduate of Catholic Central High School in Troy and from St. Mary’s Hospital School of Nursing, class of 1950 in Amsterdam.

She was employed as a registered nurse at St. Mary’s Hospital in Troy and St. Mary’s Hospital in Amsterdam. She also worked as a nurse for the Amsterdam City School District for 20 years.

Anne was a parishioner and communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Amsterdam. She was also a member of St. Mary’s Institute Parent Teachers Association, Alumni of St. Mary’s Hospital School of Nursing, class of 1950 and the Irish American Club Woman’s Auxiliary.

Anne was an avid reader. She loved traveling and had recently visited Ireland in July of 2011 with her entire family. She also traveled to New Mexico, Nevada, Minnesota, and Hawaii. Anne was a woman of great faith and loved spending time with her entire family.

Anne is survived at home by her husband John “Jack” Harrington to whom she married on June 21, 1952, ten children, Anne Farrell of Amsterdam, Tim (JoAnn) Harrington of Amsterdam, Marty (Valerie) Harrington of Hagaman, NY; Maureen Bernat of Guilderland, NY; Nora (Ron) Bartman of Amsterdam, Eileen (Lee) French of Rotterdam, NY; Denis (Caroline) Harrington of Wayzata, MN; Sheila (John) Sawyer of Clifton Park, NY; Mary Kate (Ken) Jensen of Taos, NM and Brigid (Stephen Wyszomirski of Las Vegas, NV; twenty-nine grandchildren, Brian (Nicole) Farrell and Patrick Farrell and his fiancé, Jessica Young, Cristy (Jeremy) Duma, Catherine (Carlos) Carrera, Elizabeth Bonnano, Brittany (Derek) Carpenter, Kyle (Kristin) Harrington, Ryan and Matthew Harrington, Morgan and Keegan Bernat, Jeremy (Sheena) Bartman, Joshua (Debra) Bartman, Nathan and Caitlin Bartman, Brendan, Cory, Brett and Collin French, Devin, Shane, Brennan and Sean Harrington, Bailey and Payton Sawyer, Liam, Mary Frances and Jamie Jensen and Natalie Wyszomirski, 14 great grandchildren, Katy, Jeremy, Devin, Hailey, Ganiha, Kamien, Giordan, Chase, Colby, Owen, Izabella, Lucas, Connor and Evan, brothers-in-law and sisters in law, Ed and Lina Harrington and Mary and Len Campbell. Many nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

Anne was predeceased by two brothers, Philip and William, three sisters, Elizabeth, Jane and Peggy, her son-in-law, William M. Bernat and one great grandson, Zachary Bartman.

Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial, which will be celebrated on Thursday January 5, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church 156 East Main Street, Amsterdam, NY.

Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Fort Johnson, NY.

Calling hours are Wednesday from 4 to 8 at the Riley Mortuary, Inc. 110 Division Street, Amsterdam, NY. 12010.

In lieu of flowers, Memorial gifts in Anne’s name may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 332 Lauderdale Street, Memphis, TN. 38105.
