Obituary

Virginia “Ginny” Agresta, 80, formerly of Arch Street, Amsterdam, NY; passed away Saturday May 16, 2020 at Wells Nursing Home in Johnstown, NY.

Born in Schenectady, NY on June 23, 1939, she was the daughter of the late George W. and Emily Barrett Phelps Sr.

Ginny received her education in the Amsterdam school system and retired from Marie Curie Elementary School, where she was a cafeteria worker.

Ginny was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Amsterdam.

Ginny was also predeceased by her husband, Raymond “Pucky” Agresta, who she married April 5, 1963, her daughter, Gina Agresta Barton, her son, Daniel Agresta, seven brothers, George W. Phelps Jr., John, Roy, Guy, Thomas, William “Horse”, and Joseph Phelps, two sisters, Rose Kwiatkowski and Inez Gibson.

Ginny is survived by one daughter, Ann Marie Agresta (Mark Bockus) of Rochester, NY, and one son, William Agresta (Kim), three grandsons, Jason, Kyle and Joshua Agresta all of Amsterdam, one sister, Shirley Bubniak of Amsterdam, two brothers, Pete Phelps (Donna) of Amsterdam and Daniel Phelps, (Ellen) of Ballston Spa, NY; , three sisters-in-law, Mary Jane Phelps, Sharon Agresta and Connie Dulysz. Many nieces, nephews and cousins also survive Ginny.

Due to health restrictions, funeral services will be private.

Interment will be held at Green Hill Cemetery in Amsterdam.

Memorial gifts in Virginia’s name may be made to Alzheimer’s Association of Northeast New York, 4 Pine West Plaza, Suite 405, Albany, NY 12205.

I would talk with Ginny when I helped my students get through the lunch line at Marie Curie Institute. She was so kind to me.

Sorry for your loss. Ginny was a sweet lady. I remembering her always taking her grandsons for ice cream...I think she is the one that really wanted it more then they did... She sure did love her ice cream. I will think of you every time I have a cone or dish. RIP

Ginny, is a very special person to me, we have known each other since her days at Curie. We grew very close. She meant the world to me.
